The cave is one of the best known in the UK with many visitors coming each year keen to see the historic attraction. Visitors to the cave will be greeted with one of the finest show caves in the UK with a number of notable features.
The caves here were discovered relatively recently in 1837 when a flood helped to show the natural wonder of the cave. The flood revealed some stunning cave formations and sculpted passages that have come to fascinate and enthral visitors over the years.
Underground passages and watercourses are present in the area that has been created out of the limestone rock over several thousands of years. During the Ice Ages the glaciers created in that time have left a unique and indelible mark on the local landscape.
Previously the Cave was the outflow for the streams that flow through the well known Gaping Gill cave system. This has been abandoned by the main stream meaning it is now safe to visitors to see.
For visitors there is a concrete path to walk on during the tour of the cave, visitors walk inside the cave where they will see the lighting, the stalactites and the calcite flows making for a trip to one of the UK's natural wonders.

When visitors reach the end of the tour path they will see that the cave still has plenty left further on, there are still a number of areas of the cave hidden away that have yet to be explored and may reveal many secrets from the past.

By Car:
The distance from Leeds is approx 50 miles with a journey time of approx 1 hour 30 minutes.
Ingleborough Cave is located on the south side of Ingleborough, close to the village of Clapham. Clapham is located off the A65 Leeds.
From Leeds take the A660 then the A65 that will take you to Clapham. There is car parking available and from the car park to get to the cave there is a 2 km walk that takes visitors on a scenic route through a wooded valley and past the lake on to the cave. You should allow 35 to 45 minutes for the walk.

Opening Times:
The Cave is open from the start of February until the middle of October:
Mon to Sun: 10.00 to 17.00 approx (16.00 in winter months)
Tour times are usually once every hour at the start of each hour. The tour time is approx 50 minutes.
Please Note: The natural features and environment in the cave means there unfortunately no wheelchair access.
At the start of the tour hard hats are provided and given it can be cool in the cave it is advised visitors bring warm clothing to wear.

There may be some variations on the opening hours depending on the time of year and other factors. It is wise to double check before going to ensure the attraction you wish to see is open and avoid disappointment.
Always remain alert, vigilant and aware of your belongings at all times. Keep valuables such as wallets/purses hidden away from public view. If you have a bag try to use a shoulder bag with a good quality, strong strap, that is put across your shoulder not on your shoulder making it more difficult for anyone to take your bag.
If you are travelling by car to the Cave ensure you are well prepared with maps and Sat Nav to aid your journey, particularly if you are not familiar with the local area and roads. Check road & traffic updates before travelling.
