Rhossili Bay Beach is located on the southern western tip of the Gower Peninsula in Wales. The beach is one of the best known and internationally acclaimed regularly featuring in best beaches awards and lists. The beach has 3 miles of sandy shore including one of the best known landmarks on the Gower Peninsula, Worms Head. The scenic natural beauty of the area makes for a great place to enjoy a day at the beach and discover many other delights on the Gower Peninsula.

Rhossili Bay Beach is famous for its long sandy beach that stretches for 3 miles and inspiring views of Worms Head. The beach provides plenty of space for sun bathers, families and is a great place to enjoy a relaxing beach walk. The sandy beach offers some spectacular views offering visitors some great photo opportunities. The beach is popular for water sorts and outdoor activities including surfing, windsurfing, swimming, rock climbing, fishing, parasailing, hand gliding and boating.

The beach has been awarded both the Green Coast Award and has been Marine Conservation Society Recommended for a number of years. The impressive beach and location with its stunning scenery means visitors to Wales and the UK can visit a beach of the highest standard.

Local attractions include the Rhossili Down is located to the north and includes Iron Age remains; it is the highest point on the Gower Peninsula at close to 220 metres, offering some stunning panoramic views over the Gower Peninsula. The tidal island of Worm's Head is located at he southern end of the beach, assessable, there are two islands, the inner and outer head. at low tide on the promenade that is popular with children.

Worm's Head Hotel offers accommodation along with a bar and restaurant that serves a range of hot and cold snacks, light and main meals offering local Welsh cuisine including local delicacies.

The location in the south of Wales means Rhossili Bay Beach is easily assessable from across Wales, the Midlands and southern England. From London and much of southern England it is 4 hours to 5 hours 30 minutes drive by car. From Newcastle, Durham and much of north east England the area is 6 hours 30 minutes to 7 hours by car, from Leeds it is 5 hours by car, from Birmingham and much of the Midlands it is 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes. From Liverpool and Manchester it is approx 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours.

From Cambridge and much of the East of England it is 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours by car. From Cardiff and areas within south east Wales it is 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours by car.

The Tourist Information Centre at Swansea is located approx 18 miles to the east of Rhossili Bay Beach. The tourist information centre can provide visitors with useful information, help, advice and tips on the local areas. The National Trust Shop & Visitor Centre is located in Rhossili overlooking the stunning Rhossili Bay; here visitors can find a range of useful information and resources for visitors.

The tourist information centres includes knowledgeable staff with valuable local knowledge with information on local attractions, places of interest, things to see and do, along with local advice and tips. A visit to the tourist information centres provides a good first port of call for visitors helping to better plan and organise trips in and around the local area. The city of Swansea is located 19 miles to the east of Rhossili Bay Beach; enjoying a coastal location Swansea Marina includes the promenade that overlooks Swansea Bay. The city is home to a range of shopping facilities and is known as the regional hub of shopping in south west Wales. Shops includes independent boutiques, traditional arcades and the Quadrant Shopping Centre. Swansea Market is the largest indoor market in Wales, with over 100 stalls selling fresh, local produce, gifts, jewellery and much more.

Local attractions include Swansea Museum, National Waterfront Museum, The Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea Castle along with tenpin bowling, cinemas and theatres offering plenty for visitors to se, do and enjoy.

The town of Neath is located just under 30 miles to the east of Rhossili Bay Beach. Over the years the historic market town has established itself as a local central hub for the surrounding five valleys in the area. The town still has an active market, the indoor market is a place where visitors will find a range of traditional goods and a choice of fresh, local produce. Neath is well known for its rugby team sometimes referred to as the Welsh All Blacks, formed back in 1871, it is the oldest established rugby club in Wales.

Local attractions include St David's Church, Victoria Gardens, Neath Castle, Cefn Coed Colliery Museum and Aberdulais Falls. The town includes a choice of bars, cafes, pubs, shops and restaurants.

The town of Llanelli is located 22 miles to the north east of Rhossili Bay Beach. Located in the county of Carmarthenshire, the town is the largest in the county and is surrounded by a number of local villages and rural communities. Historically the town grew during the 18th and 19th centuries with coal mining and steelworks both prominent industries.

Llanelli includes a range of cafes, bars, restaurants offering a choice of traditional Welsh cuisine and international. There are a range of accommodation options available; making a town a popular local centre for visitors to base themselves from. The town includes a choice of shops and local amenities and hosts regular Farmers' Markets offering a choice of local produce.

The town hosts a number of event and festivals including the Llanelli Ramblers Festival of Walks, an annual walking festival held in May and festival lights at Christmas.

Historic buildings in Llanelli include St Elli's Parish Church, a Grade II listed building and Llanelly House, one of the most historic buildings in the town, noted for its 18th century Georgian architecture.

Local attractions include Park Howard Museum and Art Gallery, housed inside a19th century Italianate country house located in parkland in the north of the town. Inside there are portraits, art works, artefacts dedicated to showcasing the local areas history, heritage and culture.

How to Get There


Rhossili Bay Beach is accessible by both car and public transport.

By Car:

Rhossili Bay Beach is located approx 210 miles from central London via the A4, M4, A483, A4067, A4436, A4118 and B4247. The approx journey time is 4 hours to 4 hours 30 minutes depending on traffic, route and time of day.

By Train:

From London Paddington station there are regular services to Swansea train station. The journey time is approx 3 hours 5 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes depending on service, connections and time of day. From Swansea the 119 bus goes to Rhossili, the approx journey time is 1 hour 5 minutes. Bus services are provided by New Adventure Travel

By Bus/Coach:

There are regular coaches available from London Victoria Coach station to Swansea. The approx journey time is 4 hours 15 minutes to 5 hours depending on connections, time of day and traffic. From Swansea the 119 bus goes to Rhossili. Coach services to Swansea are provided by National Express

Tips & Other Considerations


The weather and climate can be unpredictable across the UK, there can be elements of all four seasons in one day. Ensure you check the weather forecast before you travel and have the correct clothing and footwear including appropriate footwear, raincoat and umbrella.
