Business Customs and Etiquette

Business dress is conservative and business greetings are usually done with a handshake. Address people by their title is seen as good manners until/if invited to use first name. Good manners and protocol are observed in business meetings and the workplace. It is important to be on time for meetings as punctuality is deemed important. Decision making can be slower than in other countries with adherence to rules and protocol.

Business meetings may be scheduled over lunch, with breakfast meetings also possible. Business people with a working knowledge of German will find it useful, English is also used in business settings.


Travel Advice and Tips

Austria benefits from being a relatively safe country for business and tourist travellers. Well known for its efficiency and organisation, it is likely most things will run well and on time. The food is not to everyone’s tastes and presents challenges for vegetarians. The majority of trips to Austria both for business visitors and tourists go without incident each year, but it is worth always being organised, keep valuables away from public view and always be alert of your surroundings and environment.

Austria Weather & Climate


Austria's location means it s located in the temperate climatic zone; the west and the north west of the country have a temperate Atlantic climate whilst the east of he country has more of a continental climate. The temperatures are influenced by altitude with lower temperatures at higher altitudes. Summer time can hot; with the evenings cool; in the valleys the winter snow lasts from December to March. Overall Austria has warm, pleasant summers and sunny winters with snowfall conducive to enjoying a number of winter sports.

Lightweight cotton clothing can be warn for summer, layers and warm clothing is needed for winter. Visitors should be prepared for a range of weather in mountain areas as the weather can turn quickly and dramatically. Additional layers and warmer clothing is required in the winter with the cooler mornings and evenings.
