The seaside resort of Blackpool is located in the North West of England and is one of the UK’s best known seaside towns. Blackpool was been one of the most popular centres for tourism in the UK since the 19th century offering a seaside retreat and family fun. The resort become synonymous with the great British seaside holiday for much of the 20th century. Faced with increasing competition from resorts and package holidays overseas, the town fell on harder times. Despite the competition Blackpool retains one of the most popular seaside resorts in the UK and is well known for its sandy beaches, illuminations and famous buildings including the Blackpool Tower and Winter Gardens. The town still has its tramway that dates back to the 19th century making it one of the oldest in the world.
