Blackpool includes a range of entertainment options for visitors; the city offers theatres, film and cinemas, a range of live comedy venues and dance productions from traditional to opera, ballet and contemporary.

Theatre


The Blackpool Grand Theatre is located on Church Street in central Blackpool. The theatre is housed inside a Victorian building dating back to the 19th century, the Grade II listed building retains period features presenting a venue with plenty of character. The theatre is the best known in Blackpool and is home to a number of theatrical productions throughout the year catering for a range of tastes. Shows staged here include concerts, comedies and plays, with a theatre of 1,100.

The Winter Gardens are located in Sheepcote Street in the heart of Blackpool. The Winter Gardens are an entertainment complex that includes the famous Opera House Theatre. The Opera House has a capacity of 3,000 making it one of the largest theatres in the UK and has attracted a number of famous names to perform at the theatre including Hollywood names such as Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. The Empress Ballroom is an imposing venue with its chandeliers and ornate balconies, it has hosted a range of events ranging from pop concerts to political party conferences. Dining is available at the Empress Grill Room and the Mazzei Café offering visitors the chance to dine and take in a show.


Cinema


Blackpool has an Odeon cinema located on Rigby Road in the town centre. The cinema is a multi screen cinema complex showing a range of British, Hollywood and International films. The Vue cinema is located approx 4 miles from Blackpool at the North Promenade in Thornton-Cleveleys north of Blackpool.


Concerts


The Sands Venue in Blackpool is located on Church Street in the town centre. It is one of the best places to see live music in Blackpool, the theatre stages a number of shows including tribute bands and jazz acts and offers dining with an a la carte restaurant and bar. Visitors can enjoy both dinner and take in a show at the venue, the restaurant includes some wonderful views over the local area making for an enjoyable dining experience.


Other Events


There are plenty of events going on in Blackpool, it is best to check before you visit to see if the timings fit in with your schedules.

Central Pier and North Pier both offer visitors a range of attractions and entertainment. North Pier includes a number of events and shows including circus shows, children’s shows and concerts. Whilst visitors can find seaside rides such as the big wheel, dodgems, carousels and more. There are a variety of seaside stalls recreating the fun of the seaside from yesteryear. There are also shows staged at the showbar featuring a number of musical acts and dancers.

The Blackpool Dance Festival, has been established since 1920. The festival usually takes place over nine days in May and June, it is held in the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens. The festival includes dancing for Latin American, Ballroom dancing and includes entries for amateur and professional dancers. Fans of dance can see a range of dance styles during the festival.

The Showzam Festival is a circus, magic and new variety festival that runs for nine days in February each year. The festival attracts a large number of performers and street artists including established names and new and emerging talents. The festival includes a number of free events along with paid for events available. The festival offers a great family day out for the whole family with a variety of performances, new skills, tricks, shows and workshops.
