Belvoir Castle is located close to the town of Grantham in Leicestershire. The castle is well known as the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland and has been their ancestral home for a number of generations. The Castle is a popular heritage attraction along with being an events venue with events taking place at the site around the year. Visitors can take a tour of the Castle and the grounds with themed staff on hand to help create an authentic atmosphere.

Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire is an interesting heritage attraction, located in Central England it is accessible from a number of areas and offers visitors the chance to take a guided tour of the ancestral home of the Duke & Duchess of Rutland who still reside here.

The castle is well known for a number of notable collections including the impressive, ornate staterooms to the military treasures in the guardroom. There is also a fine collection of furniture, tapestries, scriptures and period art and art works.

For visitors there are costumed guides and tours available during weekdays at 12.30pm and 14.30, the guided tours are free of charge and offer visitors am enjoyable way to tour the Castle and the grounds. The knowledgeable guides can answer any questions you may have on the Castle and its history.

Belvoir has been the family home for the Duke & Duchess of Rutland for more than 1,000 years. The modern day castle is the forth to stand here since the times of the Normans. The Castle is noted for its interiors and with a range of ornate interiors and fine collections there is much for visitors to see.

The Castle contains a number of notable pieces of art and includes works by Poussin, Gainsborough and Reynolds among others. There are wonderful collections of porcelain, silks, tapestries and a range of fine French furniture pieces along with Italian sculpture.

The Gardens here are an integral part of the estate and it was the 5th Duchess of Rutland Elizabeth who helped to design the park, gardens and grounds. The Duchess designed a number of root houses one of these can be seen in the Duchess's Garden. There were once 40 gardeners that looked after the garden, there are far fewer now but the present Duke & Duchess are still keen to ensure the continued development of the gardens.

There is plenty for children at the castle, with the Belvoir Bear with the children enjoying hunting him out for prizes. There is a quiz for children to help keep them occupied too. The gardens and surrounding woodland offer the chance to take part in activities and games. There is also an adventure playground for children.

The Castle is best accessed by car:

By Car:

The castle is approx 15 miles from the city of Nottingham, 6 miles from the A1 at Grantham and from Melton Mowbray it is 12 miles away. From both Leicester and Nottingham the journey time is approx half an hour.

From Nottingham Take the A52 and follow the brown heritage attraction signs for the castle.

From Leicester take the A607 and follow the brown heritage attraction signs for the castle.

The Stewards Restaurant offers visitors a range of hot and cold lunches, sandwiches and refreshments. There are a range of options to choose from including dishes from local produce.

The Manners Arms is a short drive from the castle and offers a restaurant and bar where visitors can relax and unwind.

The Gift Shops offer a range of souvenirs and memorabilia along with a range of gifts.

There may be some variations on the opening hours depending on the time of year and other factors. It is recommended visitors double check before going to ensure the attraction you wish to see is open and avoid disappointment.

Remain alert, vigilant and aware of your belongings at all times when travelling. Ensure valuables such as your wallet/purse are hidden away from public view. If you have a bag try to use a shoulder bag with a good quality, strong strap, that is put across your shoulder not on your shoulder making it more difficult for anyone to take your bag.
