Visitor attractions include the Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum, the museum building is a Grade I listed building backing back to the 13th century. The museum is known for its extensive collection relating to Stonehenge and local archaeology. There are number of collections at the museum showcasing the history of the local area including collections in glass and ceramics, art and costumes.

Salisbury Cathedral is located in Salisbury city centre. It is one of the UK's best loved cathedrals and its traditional sight is a majestic one. The cathedral building is noted for the use of dark purbeck marble in its columns. The cathedral has a sparse, uncluttered elegant feel to it, a highlight are the 13th century cloisters that exhibit a Geometric style. The spire is one of the best known sights in Salisbury, standing at over 400 feet high.

Salisbury Playhouse that is located in the heart of Salisbury city centre. The arts centre is housed inside a Grade II listed St Edmunds Church building. The arts centre presents the public with the best in touring theatre, family events and dance, it also has regular film screenings and music gigs. The town of Swindon is located in the north east of Wiltshire approx 40 miles north of Salisbury. Lacock is a scenic village that has been purchased by the National Trust and is now maintained aimed at conservation. Lacock is located in the tranquil countryside approx 35 miles from Salisbury. Longleat opened back in 1966 Longleat, at the time it was the first Safari Park outside of Africa, today Longleat Safari Park is one of the leading wildlife attractions in the UK.

Longleat includes a range of attractions to suit visitors of all ages these include the Safari Boats for a sea-lion escorted cruise, enjoy a fun-packed ride on the Longleat Railway, Longleat Hedge Maze and the Adventure Castle. Longleat offers a great day out for the whole family to enjoy.

The best known site in Wiltshire is Stonehenge, a truly world famous ancient site located approx 10 miles from Salisbury. The impressive prehistoric monument is of outstanding importance, has been designated a World Heritage Site. Stonehenge is surrounded by remains of ceremonial and domestic structures some of these are thought to be older than the monument. Most of these features including earthworks, burial mounds and the other circular 'henge' monuments are accessible both by road or footpath.

Stonehenge's orientation on the rising and setting sun has always been one of its great features and there has been much debate and discussion this. Some feel those that built it came from a sun-admiring culture, whilst others say the circle and its banks were part of a huge astrological calendar, this is open to debate and interpretation. Visitors can learn more about the site with an audio tour available is available in several languages.

The huge stone circle at the world heritage site in Avebury is among the most impressive prehistoric sites in the UK. The site is among the most complex of the surviving Neolithic henge monuments in the UK. Silbury Hill the largest man made mound in Europe and mystery remains as to its main purpose, it is part of the Avebury site.

Stourhead House and Gardens are located close to Mare in Wiltshire, approx 28 miles from Salisbury. Stourhead includes a Palladian Mansion and renowned gardens. The imposing mansion includes the regency library and impressive collections of furniture and paintings. The gardens are acknowledged as among the finest landscaped gardens in the world providing the highlight of any visit here. The gardens date back to the 18th century, include a lake and wonderful lawns and parkland.

Walkers will enjoy the excellent walks that can be done along the Kennet and Avon Canal; here the towpath has been turned into a waterside trail. The Ridgeway Path starts near Avebury and stretches north-east into Buckinghamshire providing a longer walking path. The Ridgeway has been used as a trail for many years and it passes close by to a number of ancient sites and varying landscapes.
