The historic coaching inn dates back to the 17th century, it is situated close to the scenic River Eden in the ancient town of Appleby in Westmorland. The Royal Oak offers a good standard of accommodation and is suitable for both business and leisure visitors and offers a place with plenty of charm and character offering an interesting alternative to larger hotel chains.

The restaurant offers a range of dishes using fresh, local produce. Here guests can try the best in British and international cuisine, there are a range of meat, fish and vegetable dishes to try and there are vegetarian options and for those with special dietary needs.
There is a relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and there is an impressive international wine list to choose from for the perfect accompaniment to dinner. Dinner can be eaten in the restaurant or in the lounge with its cosy open fire or in the summer al fresco dining can be enjoyed here.
The Royal Oak Taproom is a pub open to locals and guests serving a range of drinks including local specialities such as real cask ales, there is a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The tap room has been refurbished and retains its charm and character with high quality oak used and wall panelling.
Local Attractions
Attractions in the local area include Appleby Castle and the Eden Valley. Visitors can go on a cruise on Lake Windermere located 25 miles away, there are guided tours including walking and coach tours available. The hotel is a good place from which to discover other Cumbria attractions including the Beatrix Potter Gallery, Abbot and Holker Hall, Blackwell Arts and Crafts House and Wastwater Lake.
The Lake District region is renowned as a haven for those that enjoy the great outdoors and visitors can participate in a range of activities including cycling, horse riding, golf, fishing, hot air ballooning, sailing and walking.
