Top UK Attractions

The UK offers a wide range of attractions for tourists and visitors to see and experience. Across the country visitors can see top UK attractions, these include landmarks, historical castles, theme parks, national parks, beaches, villages and sports. Whilst the UK is renowned the world over for having places and attractions of historical and cultural interest, there are also more contemporary attractions for tourists to enjoy such as the iconic London Eye.

Buckingham Palace

Visit Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the queen. Some sections of the palace are open to the public to view. Look out for the flag outside to indicate whether the queen is in residence. Summer is the best time to visit as most of the sections are open to view. The state rooms are usually open to the public in late summer (August and September), they contain some of the finest collections of art from Rembrandt and Vermeer among others, sculpture by Chantrey and Canova in addition to an exquisite collection of furniture both English and French. Other highlights include the palace garden containing hundreds of different types of wild flowers and many species of birds some of which are rare. The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace is home to state vehicles, motor cars and horse drawn carriages can be seen here. The gold state coach can be seen by visitors. Changing of the Guard

See the changing of the guard, this attraction is a huge hit with visitors to the UK. You can view this both at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.

Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is one of the official residences of the queen, located in Windsor it has a long and interesting history, a tour is offered by numerous operators and is available on most days of the year. The changing of the guard at Windsor Castle ensures visitors come from far and wide to see this great spectacle. A visit to Windsor Castle is a favourite among history and culture aficionados, the castle has over 900 years of UK history. Visitors can see the wonderful State Apartments that contain some of the best works of art in the extensive Royal Collection. Among the masterpieces here include including paintings by Rembrandt and Gainsborough et al. There are George IV’s private apartments to see (from October to March), which are among the most eye catching for their decorated interiors. Other highlights include St George’s Chapel, a fine example of Gothic architecture in the UK. There is also the Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, known to many as the best known dolls’ house in the world. London Eye

The London Eye has quickly established itself as one of the most popular attractions in London. London Eye has become an iconic symbol of London and the UK in the 21st century, akin to Paris having the Eiffel Tower and is seen as London’s must see attraction. Opened at the beginning of 2000, the wheel stands at 135 metres making it one of the largest observation wheels in the world. Visitors have flocked to see the London Eye, it offers spectacular views of London. Visitors can see over 50 of the most famous landmarks in London on the Eye, a great way to pack a lot in under one hour!

Lake District

The Lake District located in Cumbria in the North West of England, comprises of a number of lakes that ensures the area has stunning natural beauty. The landscape consists of lakes, mountains and hills making it a firm favourite among walkers, hikers and those with a sense of adventure. Blessed with such a natural environment it is perhaps not surprising areas in the region have been designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A walking tour is popular with tourists, many tour companies cater for these both full and half day. Roman Baths

These are located in the city of Bath, a legacy of the Romans. Trips to the roman baths are available daily, you can view the baths and enjoy lunch or dinner while overlooking the bath house remains. The baths after being discovered were exhumed and partially restored. They offer an insight in to UK history and offer those with an interest in history and historical structures a great spectacle.

Alton Towers

Alton Towers is among the best known theme parks in the UK. The park is located in Staffordshire in the Midlands region. Alton Towers first opened in 1980, and has since established itself as one of the premier theme parks in both the UK and Europe. There are a number of famous rides including Oblivion featuring a 200 foot vertical drop.
