If you are looking for a Christmas time holiday, there are many options available. Whether you want to stay in the UK or go abroad, the choice of destinations tour operators are offering at this time of year is increasing. The Christmas period is an extremely busy period for the travel industry worldwide and ever more people from the UK choose to spend their Christmas breaks abroad. There is the advantage of warm weather in the southern hemisphere for those that do not mind not seeing a white Christmas. However countries in the northern hemisphere that are blessed with snow in the festive period attract plenty of visitors keen to see a white Christmas.

With the school holidays, families can enjoy their Christmas break together however the peak time prices can mean some holidays are costly. For the more adventurous, they may prefer to wait for the last minute deals providing they are flexible on where they are prepared to go and for how long.

Here are some ideas of places to go at Christmas;

Lapland is a sure winner for those with children. A stunning winter wonderland, one of the most popular places to visit over Christmas is Finnish Lapland. Situated well inside the Arctic Circle, a holiday in Lapland can ensure all of your children’s wishes come true! You can ski, enjoy reindeer rides and see Santa himself! For those wanting to see a white Christmas and enjoy a picture perfect image of a winter wonderland for all the family Lapland is hard to beat.

North Africa, offers a holiday to suit those on a tight timeframe with flights from the UK only 4 hours. You can bask in the sunshine in Egypt enjoying in mild year round weather and see plenty of culture and history in one of the world’s oldest civilisations. Tunisia has some wonderful beaches and mild weather in the winter for those wanting a relaxing break.

A trip to Europe has the big advantage of short flight times giving you more time at your destination. A trip to Paris, the city famous for romance is only a few hours away from the UK. A trip to the eternal city of Rome, steeped in culture and history is also only a few hours away. Eastern Europe is becoming ever more popular with holiday makers and its close proximity to the UK makes it a great Christmas destination. A short break to beautiful Prague and Budapest offer not only a great break but good value for money.

Trips to New York are popular at this time of year. Followers of fashion can take shopping breaks to New York at most times of the year, however at Christmas you can see the festive spirit in the ‘Big Apple’ and go to their sales! You are likely to see the picture perfect postcard snow bound picture on a trip to New York and the East Coast of the USA.

Breaks to the Middle East namely Dubai and lately Oman are popular for those keen to catch some year round desert sun. Trips to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are at their peak at this time of year as the European based ex-pats head home to spend time with their families and friends. This can mean high ticket prices and a scramble for tickets, prior planning well in advance is advisable to avoid disappointment. If you do get to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa you will find yourself in their summer with plenty of sun and the snow will be replaced with a Christmas celebration possibly on the beach with a BBQ!
