The hotel is housed inside a Grade II listed Georgian mansion and sits inside its own landscaped gardens. The location is peaceful and tranquil making for a great destination where guests can relax and get away from it all. There are also meeting, conferencing and banqueting facilities at the hotel making it suitable for both business and leisure visitors.
Visitors can expect a warm welcome and high levels of service at the 5 star hotel. The hotel is located in close by to the market town of Penrith that offers good access to local amenities. The closest train stations are at Penrith North Lakes, Langwathby, Lazonby and Kirkoswald.
Facilities
There are a total of eleven guest bedrooms at the hotel, each room is unique and has its own character and charm. Guests can choose from a number of rooms including family rooms, four poster and mini suites. Many of the rooms offer some stunning views over the Lakeland Fells and the Eden Valley.
The rooms all offer en-suite facilities along with television, telephone, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. There is Wi-Fi internet access available and on site car parking for guests.
The Roundthorn offers a range of facilities for business meetings, conferences and training courses. There are banqueting facilities for weddings and private functions too.
Dining
Guests can have a full English breakfast in the mornings along with a choice of cereals, fruits, juices and tea and coffee.
The bar serves a range of drinks including soft drinks, beers and wines. The Residents Lounge is a place where guests can sit back and relax in relaxed, comfortable surroundings.
There is no hotel restaurant however there is a Supper Menu that is available from Sunday to Thursday in the Bar/Lounge or in the guest rooms. Guests can find a selection of menus from local restaurants catering for all tastes from British to Chinese to Indian and International cuisine.
Local Attractions
Attractions in the local area include Penrith and Brougham Castle ruins and Penrith museum. The Vale of Eden is located in the North Pennines and is surrounded by fells and Lakeland mountains making for an unspoilt area. Visitors can go on a cruise on Lake Windermere located approx 30 miles away, there are guided tours including walking and coach tours available.
The hotel is a good place from which to discover other Cumbria attractions including the Beatrix Potter Gallery, Abbot and Holker Hall, Blackwell Arts and Crafts House and Wastwater Lake. The hotel is well located for discovering the Northern Lakes and the market towns of Appleby and Alston.
The Lake District region has plenty to offer those that enjoy the great outdoors and visitors can participate in a range of activities including cycling, horse riding, golf, fishing, hot air ballooning, sailing and walking.
The hotel is located close by to the town of Workington in the Lake District where visitors will find the renowned natural scenery, open spaces and inspiring landscapes associated with the region. There are a range of local shops including those specialising in local arts and crafts and a range of restaurants. The hotel provides a good location from which to explore a range Cumbria attractions> and local places of interest. The A69 and A686 offer access to Newcastle Airport located approx 60 miles away by road.
