Worthing's beaches are located on the south coast of England, the location makes them a convenient and popular destination for those living in London and the surrounding areas in southern England when looking for a trip to the beach. Worthing is home to a number of beaches these include Worthing beach, Worthing East Pier beach, Goring beach and Lancing Green beach all of which are located fairly close by to one another.

Worthing beach is centrally located a short distance from the town centre close by to local attractions and amenities available in the town centre. The beach is the best known and most visited of the beaches in the area. and the best known and most visited of the beaches here. The main Worthing beach includes a promenade with a choice of cafes, eateries and restaurants along with facilities including toilets. There is a 5 mile stretch of shingle beach for visitors to enjoy here; at low tide sand is visible, the beach is a popular one with fans of water sports including wind surfing and sailing. Local amenities include cafes, eateries and restaurants. The beach is a short walk from Worthing Pier.

Lancing Green beach is located between the east of the main Worthing beach and Worthing East Pier beach. The village of Lancing became a popular seaside resort back in the 19th century favoured by visitors for its secluded atmosphere. The shingle beach is a popular destination for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing offering a more secluded and laid back atmosphere. The beach is known for its beach huts, the area is less than one mile from Lancing railway station located to the north.

Goring beach is located in the district of Goring-by-Sea located a few miles to the west of Worthing. The beach is a shingle and sand beach that includes a row of beach huts, a yacht club and some beachside cafes. Goring beach offers a more laid back and quiet beach experience for visitors with none of the amusement arcades that are common on other seaside resorts on the south coast. The result is an altogether quieter area ideal for those wishing to get away from the crowds.

Worthing includes a number of historic buildings including over 200 listed buildings. Castle Goring, St Mary's Church and Archbishop's Palace are Grade I listed. The town is home to a number of parks and open spaces which were primarily introduced during the Victorian and Edwardian era. Attractions include Beach House Green, Broadwater Green, Goring Green, Highdown Gardens and Brooklands Park, the parks offer a great place to enjoy a leisurely stroll in scenic surroundings.

Worthing is home to a number of local museums and theatres including the Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, famous for its toys and costumes collections; Pavilion Theatre and the Field Place and Arts Complex.

Worthing Pier is a historic pier dating back to the 19th century, the historic structure is a Grade II listed building. The pier includes an amusement arcade along with the Pavilion Theatre and The Denton, there are areas dedicated to fishing and family entertainment at the Neptune's Entertainment Centre. Visitors can enjoy some splendid views across the local areas and beyond. The historic pier remains one of the best known and iconic images of the town.

Worthing Lions Summer Festival is an annual festival usually held in late July/August; the festival includes a range of programmes for visitors to see including family funfairs, concerts, charity and boutique markets and fireworks displays offering a great fun filled day out for the whole family.

Located in the scenic southern English coast; Worthing beaches is easily assessable from across southern Wales, the Midlands and southern England. From London and much of southern England it is 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes drive by car. From Newcastle, Durham and much of north east England the area is 6 hours to 7 hours by car, from Leeds it is 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours by car, from Birmingham and much of the Midlands it is 3 to 4 hours. From Liverpool and Manchester it is approx 5 hours to 5 hours 30 minutes.

From Cambridge and much of the East of England it is 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours by car. From Cardiff and areas within South Wales it is 3 to 4 hours by car.

The seaside town of Eastbourne is located 30 miles to the east of Eastbourne in East Sussex. The famous Eastbourne seafront include a shingle and sand beach along with seafront restaurants, beach huts and amusements. Eastbourne Pier is one of the best known Victorian piers. The Eastbourne Bandstand hosts in excess of 100 concerts each year, including traditional, proms, fireworks and kids concerts. Other local attractions include the Redoubt Fortress, Eastbourne Lifeboat Museum & Shop and Treasure Island Outdoor Theme Park.

Beachy Head cliffs are the highest chalk sea cliff in the UK, located at the western end of the seafront in Eastbourne, visitors can explore the Beachy Head Countryside Centre, the Lighthouse and Beachy Head Pub. Visitors can enjoy a boat trip to the Beachy Head Light House. The area is a favourite destination for television and films drawn to the scenic natural beauty of the area.

The cathedral city of Chichester is located 20 miles to the west of Worthing in West Sussex. The city has a rich history going back to Roman times; it is well known for its 12th century cathedral and has a number of historic and notable buildings. Attractions include the Chichester Cross, The Novium, Pallant House Gallery and the Chichester Festival Theatre.

Local attractions include the Grade I listed Chichester Cathedral dating back to the 12th century the cathedral is noted for its architecture and includes a number of noted art works and tapestries inside. The cathedral dominates the local skyline; the impressive building is a popular attraction for visitors and is in active use with daily services. Visitors can see the traditional and modern at the cathedral with contemporary artworks and medieval design evident.

Visitors can go on guided tours of the cathedral to learn more about it and its rich and fascinating history. There is a cafe serving a choice of food and drinks and a shop offering a range of gifts, souvenirs and mementos including jewellery from local designers and fairtrade gifts.

Chichester Harbour is a popular place for outdoor activities including walking, cycling, sailing and bird watching. The area is a haven for wildlife and is one of the few areas left on the south coast that is relatively undeveloped. The area is both an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The city of Brighton & Hove is located 12 miles to the east of Worthing in East Sussex. The famous Brighton seafront is among the best known in the UK and includes a shingle and sand beach along with seafront restaurants, amusements and entertainment. Historic Brighton Pier is one of the most famous piers in the UK well known for its assortment of attractions including traditional seaside amusements, the Grade II listed building includes a number of thrill rides, traditional rides including dodgems and kids rides and number of traditional seaside stalls, amusement arcades, bars and a number of eateries.

Brighton Seafront includes traditional seaside shops and a number of artists studios, the area is home to a number of sea front restaurants serving a choice of cuisines. The club scene in Brighton is well established; there are a choice of clubs on the seafront and in the city attracting clubbers from Brighton and beyond.

Brighton Marina is located a short walk to the east of Brighton Central beach; here visitors with find a number of yacht, boats and opportunities for sailing trips. Local entertainment in the marina includes cinema, casino, bowling and a choice of cafes, quayside bars and restaurants; there is also outlet shopping at the venue.

Hove beach is located a short walk to the west of Brighton Central beach. Hove beach has an altogether calmer and quieter feel than Brighton Central beach with a noticeably more laid back atmosphere making it an ideal place for visitors keen to get away from the crowds. The beach has shingle and is famous for its colourful beach huts.

How to Get There


Worthing beaches is accessible by both car and public transport.

By Car:

Worthing's beaches are located just over 60 miles from central London via the A23, M23 and A27. The approx journey time is 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes depending on traffic, route and time of day.

By Train:

From London Charing Cross and London Cannon Street stations there are regular services to Worthing train station. The journey time is approx 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours depending on service, connections and time of day.

By Bus/Coach:

There are regular coaches available from London Victoria Coach station to Worthing Coach Station. The approx journey time is 2 hours 35 minutes to 3 hours depending on connections, time of day and traffic. Coach services to Worthing Coach Station are provided by National Express
